"Apocalyptic" fragrance candle by Byredo

APOCALYPTIC
Fragranced Candle
Fragranced Candle/Bougie Parfumée, 300g/9 oz
Burning time: 60h

“The history of the apocalypse stretches back thousands of years and has often been depicted in art and cinema. Currently these predictions distract from the real perils facing the planet like global warming and biological diversity. Apocalyptic is a artistically challenge of creating a scent that nobody has ever experienced.”

Far from fire and brimstone, Apocalyptic is a wonderfully warm, wood fragrance that opens with the hot metal notes of fire irons melded with the glorious, rare, black raspberry from Oregon. At the centre of Apocalyptic, the scents of ancient papyrus and oakmoss conjure great age while at the base, warm dark woods and the smouldering birch hint at depleted primordial forests.

Scent and Style

Birthday girl Aurea on left at STK, NYC
I had a blast this weekend! I celebrated my girlfriend's 33rd birthday at NYC's trendy steakhouse, STK, located in the meatpacking district. We spent a few hours enjoying delectable skirt steak, mac and cheese, parmesan truffle fries, tuna tartar, and of course cocktails! As always, the service was stellar and the atmosphere was electric. From Micheal Jackson to Jay Z and every jam in between, the DJ kept the tunes going and our waiter kept the cocktails flowing! No celebrity sightings this visit, but my friend definitely looked like one Saturday evening! Wearing this glitter dress, Beyonce--styled hair, MAC makeup, and Hanae Mori Butterfly perfume, she projected the right attitude and style for her birthday dinner, sexy and more sexy!

Ready for a night out

Aurea appreciates perfume. This particular fragrance was gifted to her by her boyfriend who thought the scent was ideal for her and luckily she agreed. Initially, she refused to share the name of the perfume fearing I'd go out to purchase it for myself. Eventually she told me it was Hanae Mori. My GF is curvy with a backside she shamelessly embraces and flaunts! She appreciates her body and the sexiness that comes with it. Hanae Mori's Butterfly perfume is a perfect match for her personality and style. Launched in 1995, Butterfly, became a Mori classic. Ideal for the grown woman with a natural sex appeal and an attitude to match, which is her all the way. It's drenched in sweetness, little too sugary for my taste, but may be appropriate for that grown woman who likes to express her sweet and sexual side at the same time. How do you decide what perfume to wear on a given day? Have you ever considered pairing your perfume with an outfit or an event? Do you select a perfume based on your emotion? Does your perfume choices reflect your personality? Feel free to answer one of these question below and you may just win one of 3 award winning Travalo refilliable purse size perfume sprays.

Twitter Chronicles

Falling in love is pretty dramatic and unpredictable. It's blissful when it's good and treacherous when its not! Love involves an emotional connection that goes beyond physical appearance or external attributes. It elevates; it's purposeful. Love is desired and everlasting when it's "right."

I sent my friend Nicole some Kilian samples because she was looking for a new fragrance for the Fall. I mixed it up, including Love "Don't be Shy," Straight to Heaven "White Cristal,"and Dangerous Liaisons "Typical Me." She clearly favored Love "Don't be Shy" tweeting that the scent has her falling in love with herself!"

What's really fascinating about Nicole's tweet is her ability to verbalize the emotional effect this perfume has had on her. She clearly feels..... Whenever she applies this to her skin.....

Creed's Aqua Fiorentina

I never fully explored CREED's entire perfume collection. Although, I do recall a couple of years ago, while working at Neiman Marcus for Coty, smelling the widely popular perfume, Aventus. I recall saying to myself, "if I had a man, I'd want him to smell like this."

Last Saturday, while working at SAKS, I made my way over to the CREED counter again and randomly picked up Aqua Fiorentina for women. Launched in 2009, the plum infused fragrance with hints of cedar and sandalwood had me captivated. The remaining 30 minutes of my shift was spent in fragrant bliss! I couldn't stop smelling myself. It totally reenergized me and had me longing for more! Before leaving the store, I created two samples to take home! Both of which were securely packed away in my carry-on for my trip to Dallas the next day! I figured, if Aqua Fiorentina can bring me such pleasure within a short time, then the next 5 days of corporate politicking will be a piece of cake!

Update: It's 8:00 am on Tuesday and my colleague, Amanda, says "you smell pretty and very feminine!"

PARIS Bound 2013...

It was a little over a year ago when I traveled to the south of France with a desire to learn more about perfume and the history behind it. I asked my my friend and colleague Kelly to come along with me because I had no clue about Europe. She'd been all over the world and was always down for a trip. We spent 12 days traveling to Nice, Grasse, Cannes, Monte Carlo, Ez, St.Tropez, and Provence. A year later and more passionate then ever about perfume, I booked my flight to Paris!!!!  Outside of Grasse, which offers a historical perspective on perfume, Paris is the place where perfume, fashion, food, and culture, intersect. It's a must visit for the perfume aficionado and I sureley can't wait until May 2013!!!

*Side note: Two years ago I wrote my short term goals on a large sticky note and hung it on a wall in my bedroom. My goals at the time were, trips to Grasse and Paris, create a perfume blog, start a LLC, attend fragrance related events, join social media, network with other perfume lovers, and freelance for a perfume company. Today, all those goals are met, except one (the LLC).

Paris will be an entire different experience for me. I have no doubt I will return home more inspired and passionate then before!!!! In preparation for the trip, I plan to engage my twitter followers and readers some how! I have six months to plan but do stay connected to see what's in store!

Making Perfume part of your Life Style

You can be a regular guy who doesn't leave home without Creed and his IPhone, the creator of the infamous "RED BOTTOMS" Christian Louboutin who prefers Frederic Malle perfume secure in his carry on luggage as he travels the world, or you can be a simple man who married "The One" and wanted to make Dolce and Gabbana perfume part of his wedding day. Regardless of who you may be, perfume is a "Necessary Luxury" and should be part of your life style.

Kenzo and Rihanna

Rihanna recently rocked a Kenzo T-Shirt bringing attention to the Paris based Japanese bread fashion house. Apparently Rihanna is a fan of Kenzo, which doesn't come to a surprise! Kenzo is known for their eclectic, hip, funky, and fun designs!

Unbeknownst to some, Kenzo also has a successful perfume collection. I've never tried their fragrances, but it's worth pointing out the connection!

Osswald Parfumerie and Luxury Skin Care Boutique Opens

A fragrance gem easily found in the the heart of SoHo.
Welcome to Osswald

My upcoming vacation to the Dominican Republic required I take a trip into the city to renew my passport, which expired in June! After submitting all necessary forms for an expedited delivery and getting a bite to eat, I decided to walk a few blocks to the new fragrance boutique, Osswald on West Broadway. Along the way, I passed Benefits(makeup) and was swayed into the store by a zealous sales associate using the pitch,"Come in and try the world's best selling mascara." Two purchases later, I departed the store with exaggerated eyebrows and extended eyelashes:)

When I arrived in front of Osswald, I was impressed with the exterior and large windows. I walked inside and up the stairs and was greeted by friendly associates. After introducing myself and a few minutes of small talk, I was shown around the boutique and introduced to their impressive line of niche fragrances and Mr. Osswald's larger then life miniature perfume bottle collection ( very cool and reminiscent of a vintage bottle collection I saw in Grasse).

All packaged up
After an hour or so of whiffing, conversation, and laughs, I left the store with a new fragrance by Huitieme Art Parfume and a generous amount of perfume and skin care samples. When asked,"what's special about Osswald? The response I was given was, "service" and "exclusivity" with a "Swiss"approach. With a host of retail stores and boutiques in NYC, there are few fragrance boutiques or apothecaries period and even fewer, if any, offering a European perfumerie experience like Osswald.

For a full list of perfume and skin care brands carried at Osswald, visit  www.osswaldnyc.com

My purchase from Osswald.

Scent and Look of the day

Scent: Incense Oud by Kilian

Look:
Shoes: snake skin pumps by Pelle Moda
Skirt- Loehmans (Blue stretch pencil skirt)
Shirt- Ann Taylor
Handbag- Emma Fox

Location: Teaneck, NJ ( business luncheon)

This morning I left my apartment feeling empowered and unstoppable....thanks to Michelle Obama and her astounding address last night at the DNC! I wanted to translate that exact energy into my look and perfume selection. The pencil skirt paired with a long sleeve silk Ann Taylor top and complimentary pumps were all appropriate for my daily routine and perfect for today's slight breeze and overcast weather. The perfume, Incense Oud by Kilian, gave me extra pep in my step. This unisex fragrance is reminiscent of an actual incense minus the ash droppings and clean up. It's warm, sexy, smoky, and bold while maintaining a tailored consistency throughout the day. The price for this perfume is wicked (bottle is $395) hence the reason I don't wear it often. I don't have a full bottle but I do have the travel size which is shown below. I don't consider Incense Oud an every day fragrance. Instead, its reserved for those days when I feel "in charge" or "empowered" like today.

Bergdorf Goodman is the home of the new Balenciaga EDP

Not many pieces of mail stop me in my tracks, except for my Bergdorf Goodman magazine! Instead of getting cozy on my couch, I opt to sit on the wooden step and flip through the pages. The fashion, of which I can not afford, the designers, the articles, and historical content I find to be fascinating and inspiring...especially as I consider creative ways to associate perfume and lifestyle together. I'm not a regular Bergdorf shopper by far, but I find myself there occasionally checking out exclusive fragrances or attending private events.

Tomorrow is Fashion Night Out in NYC. Definitely looking forward to being part of the mix and stopping by Bergdorf Goodman to check out the new Balenciaga perfume below.

SCENT and LOOK of the Day

Scent: Byredo's Bal D'Afrique perfume
( bergamot, lemon neroli, jasmine, black amber, musk, and Moroccan cedar)

Look: Teri Jon skirt, black Pelle Moda pumps, and Tahari top!

Location: Work(Sales)

I decided to wear Bal D'Afrique today because it compliments my professional look and enhances my already easy going, engaging, and energetic personality! My job requires constant interaction and communication with people, so its important to wear a perfume that's not distracting but warm, smooth, and welcoming.

Before leaving my apartment this morning, I filled my travel atomizer(pictured below). If you do not have one, I suggest you get one to carry in your purse, suitcase, handbag, or keep at work.

JOYA, NYC

"Handmade in New York City" is the motto Joya proudly stands by. Whether it's their candles or perfumes, Joya welcomes and embraces the curious nose or candle fanatic. Introduced to the world by founder, Frederick Bouchardy, Joya has participated in the Elements showcase since its inception a couple of years ago. Not one to have an entire line of fragrances, Joya has just enough options to accommodate their established and loyal followers while catering to new perfume seekers.

What I like about Joya is its friendly price point, quality, options, and use of essential oils. A convenient travel size roll on perfume of Joya FvsS Composition No.1 cost $28.00! It's not large, but it carries enough perfume power to keep you smelling and feeling yourself all day;) Apply the roll-on to your skin and notice how the essentials oils leave a scented residue that last throughout the day! No.1 is my favorite Joya scent; however, the recent release, Ames Soeurs or soul mates, is a top contender as well. The roll-on is travel friendly and can be thrown in a purse but if you're a fragrance enthusiast the porcelain perfume bottle (shown below) will make a great addition to your collection. No.1 is safe for work (will not over power colleagues) and excellent for socializing with a fun crowd!

No.1
Top notes: sparkling Italian mandarin, Brazilian orange and fresh quince.
Heart notes: heliotrope petals, tuberose, jasmine, camellia and Damask rose.
Dry down notes: creamy sandalwood, pale musk and a hint of tonka bean

Joya Candles
If you like your house or apartment to smell as good as you, Joya's candles or diffusers are worth considering. Seeking a simple but quality candle? Or one that adds design presence to your space? Joya is ideal. Their candles have been created by celebrated ceramic artist, Sarah Cihat, and most recently Joya added a new candle line by Hervé L. Leroux, formally known as Hervé Leger, and it's pretty darn mesmerizing I might add!

For additional details on Joya visit their website, Joya Studio.
